What is a mastermind group? 

According to Napoleon Hill, known best for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937), it is “the coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony”. Meaning, it is a group of like-minded, yet diverse, people with shared interest who support and help each other to grow, to improve, to be successful in life and/or in business. 

Mastermind groups are typically focused on a specific common ground, whether it be industry or interest, personal or professional. Groups can be self-run or led by an experienced facilitator. For our purposes, Future State Mastermind Groups focus on helping small business owners with both personal and professional development through peer support and exceptional group facilitation. 

We believe strongly that the greatest value comes from facilitated groups, because there is a structure and a system that creates a productive framework for members to get the most out of their group. Anyone can start a group, but not just anyone can fill a group with the proper members that create the greatest collective value, establish and expedite a proven process that enables everyone to grow, and/or expedite discussions that provide opportunities for individual improvement and continuous group development. 

Great facilitators are passionate, servant leaders who value inclusion. They know how to bring the right people together in a safe environment where members can be vulnerable through open and honest discussion. The best facilitators know how to leverage structure and process while remaining agile to ensure members of the group are engaged and participation is harmonious. Most importantly, the best facilitators can optimize group value by making sure discussions reach viable resolution.     

What are the benefits of joining a mastermind group?

There are many benefits to joining a formalized mastermind group. Research studies indicate a group can help develop and operationalize ideas in a quicker fashion than working alone.
